Federal Employment Laws

Like most state employment laws, most federal employment laws are statutory, including statutes that implement constitutional protections, such as the federal “civil rights” laws. Federal employment laws tend to address and implement U.S. Constitutional protections, rights and issues believed to be of national importance, such that national uniformity in their application, and access to the federal court system to enforce these rights are necessary to preserve them. Some of them are:

Discrimination Laws:
§ Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
   § Americans With Disabilities Act
§ Age Discrimination in Employment Act
   § Equal Pay Act
   § Pregnancy Discrimination Act
   § Veterans' Reemployment Rights Act

Family and Medical Leave Act

Employees Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA/COBRA)

Fair Labor Standards Act

National Labor Relations Act
